Nurse practitioner brings experience, enthusiasm for patient education to Wabash Health Clinic

NORTH MANCHESTER, INDIANA – Oct. 20, 2023 – Emily Vanderpool, NP, has joined the Parkview Wabash Health Clinic and is seeing patients in the North Manchester office at 1104 N. Wayne St.

“We are very fortunate that Emily has decided to serve patients here in Wabash County,” said Deb Potempa, market president, Parkview Health Southwest. “As a nurse and as a nurse practitioner, she has worked with patients from a variety of backgrounds with a wide range of needs, and she is well equipped to treat area residents and advocate for their physical and mental well-being.”

Vanderpool completed her Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) degree at Indiana University Purdue University in Indianapolis. She is a board-certified nurse practitioner and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

A native of Danville, Indiana, Vanderpool earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Purdue University in West Lafayette.

She comes to the North Manchester primary care clinic with considerable experience in multiple healthcare settings. Most recently, she served adult patients with chronic and complex mental and physical conditions in clinics in Huntington and Wabash. Earlier in her career, as a registered nurse, she cared for patients in the Parkview Huntington Hospital Emergency Department, the Parkview Regional Medical Center’s Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU) and a surgical progressive care unit at an Indianapolis hospital.

Vanderpool said her experiences have taught her adaptability and an appreciation for the individuality of each patient in her care.

“There is such a great variety in the types of patients I see in primary care,” said Vanderpool. “All of them are unique with their own needs, which keeps me on my toes as a provider. Every patient's approach, understanding and tolerance to treatment is different. I enjoy the challenge of tailoring an appropriate treatment plan for each person while building rapport with them and their families.”

Vanderpool sees education as a vital part of supporting her patients.

“I would like patients to know that I am here for them,” she said. “I thoroughly enjoy the time I get to spend educating them, and I want them to feel motivated, empowered and properly informed so they can take initiative in making healthcare decisions for themselves to ultimately better their well-being. As their provider, I can be the bridge to help make that happen.”

Away from work, Vanderpool enjoys relaxing with a good book and listening to music.

“I also love spending time with my husband, Isaiah, and our son and daughter, and watching the kids learn and grow,” she said.
